1,047 new cases bring Philippines’ COVID-19 tally to over 480,000

The Philippines’ coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) tally hit 480,737 on Wednesday after the Department of Health (DOH) announced 1,047 new infections as three laboratories failed to submit reports on time.

Davao City registered the highest number of new cases at 79, followed by Quezon City with 58, Laguna with 55, Bulacan with 40, and Cagayan de Oro with another 40.

Total recoveries also rose to 448,700 after 339 more patients recovered from the respiratory disease as the death toll reached 9,347 with 26 new fatalities.

There are also 22,690 active cases undergoing treatment or quarantine.

Meanwhile, Hong Kong reported that a traveler from the Philippines was found to have the new coronavirus variant initially discovered in the United Kingdom.

Despite this, the DOH said a study of 305 samples did not detect the new variant of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.

The Philippine Airlines also said the traveler who had the new variant presented a negative COVID-19 test result in Manila prior to departure.
