Philippines reports 1,952 new COVID-19 infections; total nears 486,000


The Department of Health (DOH) on Saturday reported 1,952 new coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infections, bringing the total to 485,797, as seven laboratories failed to submit data on time.

According to the DOH, Davao City reported the highest number of new cases on Saturday with 143. This was followed by Quezon City with 98, Rizal with 80, Cavite with 77, and Bulacan with 74.

The DOH also announced that total recoveries rose to 449,615 after 291 more patients recovered from the illness while 34 new fatalities brought the death toll to 9,398.

Seven duplicate cases were also removed from the total case count while three cases previously tagged as recovered were reclassified as fatalities.

There are also 26,784 cases still undergoing treatment or quarantine. Of this, 83.1 percent are mild, 8.6 percent are asymptomatic, 2.8 percent are severe, and 5.1 percent are in critical condition.

Data from the DOH also showed that 62 percent of the country’s intensive care unit beds are available while 78 percent of the mechanical ventilators are ready for use.

Around 88,024,570 COVID-19 cases have been registered across the globe.

Of this, at least 1,899,396 people have succumbed to the illness while 54,775,300 have recovered. -MDM, GMA News
