100 PATIENTS A DAY PER TEAM

DOH: 4,512 fixed COVID-19 vaccination posts identified across Philippines

The Philippine government has identified a total of 4,512 fixed vaccination points in the country where COVID-19 immunization will be conducted, Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said Monday.

During a Senate hearing on the government's vaccination plan, Duque said the model will be similar to election poll sites and existing medical centers and rural health facilities will be among those to be used.

Each vaccination team will be composed of six workers—a physician, nurse or midwife who will be in charge of screening and assessment; one allied professional or volunteer for health education; a doctor, nurse, or midwife who will vaccinate; and two health workers or volunteers from partner agencies who will be tasked for documentation and taking of vital signs.

"Sisikapin ng ating bawat vaccination team na makapagbakuna ng 100 pasyente po sa isang araw," he said.

Asked by Senator Grace Poe how many teams will there be per vaccination site, Duque replied there will be three so around 300 patients will be inoculated per site.

Duque explained that the vaccination process will be composed of five stages: registration; pre-vaccination education and counselling; screening including medical history review; vaccination and issuance of immunization card; and post-vaccination monitoring and surveillance.

The Philippines targets to inoculate 50 to 70 million individuals this year.

Vaccine czar Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. said the vaccine rollout is seen to start in February through the Covax, a globally-pooled vaccine procurement and distribution effort co-led by the World Health Organization, the Gavi vaccine alliance, and the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations. — RSJ, GMA News
