3 suspects arrested in rape-slay of transgender man in QC

Authorities on Saturday arrested three suspects in the rape-slay of a 21-year-old transgender man in Quezon City.

A report by Rod Vega on Super Radyo DZBB cited initial information from the Quezon City Police District that two suspects were arrested in the killing of Ebeng Tria just before noon.

They were caught after their companion, who was invited on Friday night for investigation in Payatas, Quezon City, pointed to them as suspects in the crime.

Before this, a friend said the first suspect also joined the search for Tria, but the police did not allow the suspect to go home after finding out he was one of the last companions of the victim.

The body of Tria was found in Bagong Silang on Thursday, days after telling his mother and sister that he would go out for a drinking session with friends.

Rachelle Tria said Ebeng had a problem with his live-in partner in Pampanga.

Meanwhile, according to Mai Bermudez's 24 Oras Weekend report, the Commission on Human Rights said that they "would be conducting an independent investigation and shall work closely with the authorities in pursuing justice for Ebeng and their family."

The CHR also lamented that the murder took place as the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia was celebrated. — DVM, GMA News
