Duterte extends ban on travelers from India, UAE, five other countries


President Rodrigo Duterte has approved the extension of restrictions currently imposed on inbound travel coming from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates.

Presidential spokesman Harry Roque said the ban would continue from June 1 until June 15, 2021.

The Philippines in late April imposed a travel ban on all travelers from India amid the resurgence of the COVID-19 in the South Asian country.

The COVID-19 variant first detected in India is also one of the variants of concern being monitored in the Philippines.

In early May, the Philippines expanded its ban on travelers amid the resurgence in the number of  COVID-19 cases by prohibiting as well as those from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka.

On May 16, the included travelers from Oman and the United Arab Emirates in the ban amid the threat of the India variant of COVID-19. —NB, GMA News
