Sara : Why the ‘slapping game’ over Duterte-Duterte tandem

Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte wondered about the lingering controversy over  a Duterte-Duterte tandem in the upcoming Eleksyon 2022 in May when his father, President Rodrigo Duterte, has said women are not fit to become the country's president.

“I do not understand why 1Sambayan and the Palace are playing a slapping game about a Duterte-Duterte tandem,” Duterte said in Mav Gonzales’ report on “24 Oras.”

Duerte remained tight-lipped, however, if she would gun for the country's top post.

The mayor issued the remark after the 1Samabayan coalition said it would be unacceptable to the public to have a ticket in next year's elections with her as candidate for president and her father as vice president.

“The president already said he does not believe I am fit to be president because I am a woman,” Sara Duterte added.

Malacanang said the public should just wait for election day.

In January, the president thumbed down calls for her daughter to run for president, saying it's a job that's not for women as “the emotional set-up of a woman and man is totally different.”

“My daughter, inuudyok naman nila, sabi ko ‘My daughter is not running.’ I have told Inday not to run kasi naaawa ako sa dadaanan niya na dinaanan [ko],” the president previously said.

Duterte, meanwhile, remained tight-lipped about her 2022 election plans.

She previously said she has no intention to run for president.

On Monday, former Defense Secretary Gilberto “Gibo” Teodoro Jr. offered himself as a potential running mate for Sara Duterte should she decide to run.

Meanwhile, the president earlier said he will consider the advice of people before he firms up his decision on the vice presidential run.—Joahna Lei Casilao/LDF, GMA News
