Duterte to Sara: Do not run for president

President Rodrigo Duterte said he asked his daughter Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte to forego running for president in Eleksyon 2022.

In an interview with Pastor Apollo Quiboloy, said Sara would not get anything from being the Chief Executive apart from a "sense of fulfillment."

"Pero si Inday, kagabi man ako dumating, si Inday kinausap ko talaga kagabi. Do not run, do not ever commit the mistake of running for the presidency," Duterte said.

[I really talked to Inday when I went home last night. Do not run, do not ever commit the mistake of running for the presidency.]

"I do not mean to insult the Filipino people. Wala ka talagang makuha, wala para sa iyo, except for one thing, yung sense of fulfilment mo sa kapwa mo na may nagawa ka," he added.

[I do not mean to insult the Filipino people. You can gain nothing from being president except the sense of fulfillment that you did something for your fellowmen.]

"Aside from that, it’s an empty," Duterte said.

Duterte had previously shot down calls for Sara — who continued to emerge as the top contender in Pulse Asia surveys for president — to run for president.

He said the presidency was not for a woman.

The president said there was nothing to gain from the presidency aside from a sense of fulfillment.

“Unless magtakbo ka ng presidente tapos mangurakot ka, you can become a billionaire or millionaire…  Sabi ko sa kanya, 'Knowing you, maawa ako sayo magtrabaho ka, ang sweldo 200',” Duterte said.

[Unless you run for president and then be corrupt, you can become a billionaire or millionaire. I told her, 'Knowing you, I would pity you. You’re going to work and the wage will be 200.]

Duterte initially said that he didn't see anyone deserving to continue what he had accomplished.

"Wala. Wala akong nakitang deserving," Duterte said.

After further discussion, Duterte eventually said, "Meron pero mag neutral na lang ako. Pero meron diyang mga aspirants. I may publicly name them when the time comes."

[There are some but I would stay neutral. There are aspirants. I may publicly name them when the time comes.]

"I do not mean to insult anybody but, it takes more than just what you show today.... It’s more than that,” Duterte said. —NB, GMA News
