Over 200,000 affected by Habagat rains —NDRRMC


A total of 202,213 individuals or 50,676 families in six regions were affected by the southwest monsoon or Habagat, which dumped heavy rains over the weekend, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Monday.

In its latest report, the NDRRMC said affected individuals are from Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Western Visayas, Cordillera Administrative Region, and National Capital Region.

At least 38,472 persons or 10,242 families were staying inside evacuation centers, while 33,767 people or 7,374 families were taking shelter outside evacuation centers.

The NDRRMC said 480 barangays were affected by the southwest monsoon that was enhanced by Typhoon Fabian.

At least 244 flooded barangays, four maritime incidents, a rockslide, a sinkhole, three storm surges, and a mudflow were reported in eight regions.

The NDRRMC added that 13 roads and six bridges became not passable to vehicles.

Over P100 million worth of agriculture was damaged. Around P2.4 million worth of damage in 125 infrastructures was also reported.

At least 447 homes were partially damaged, while 143 houses were completely damaged, still according to the NDRRMC.

The NDRRMC also said a 39-year-old woman was reported dead in Kennon Road Baguio due to a vehicular accident involving a fallen tree on July 23. Two people were also injured in the incident. —KBK, GMA News
