You want to change the system? Declare martial law, says Duterte

For President Rodrigo Duterte, the only way to combat corruption and change the system is to declare martial law.

During his last State of the Nation Address on Monday, Duterte said nobody could actually prevent corruption unless one overhauls the government.

"If I were the next president, if you think there's a need for you to change everybody in the system then you declare martial law and fire everybody and allow the new generation to come in and work. Kung di mo ganyanin, walang mangyari..." Duterte said.

The President said corruption is like the problem on illegal drugs as it is already entrenched in the system. Duterte mentioned he earlier found out there were nine police generals allegedly involved in drug trafficking.

"Kagaya ng drugs, sino ba naman maniwala na nine generals sa police were into trafficking," Duterte said.

Surigao del Norte Representative Robert "Ace" Barbers said he would push for the investigation of the case of the accused police generals.

"I think it's plausible to have this issue investigated by Congress since, from what I've heard, none of them had been investigated nor were charged in court," Barbers, chairperson of the House committee on dangerous drugs, said.—LDF, GMA News
