COVID-19 vaccination to proceed in NCR under ECQ

Malacañang said the government's COVID-19 vaccination program will proceed in Metro Manila even if the region will be under the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) from August 6 to 20.

"Yes, definitely [it will proceed]. Details will be provided in due course of the COVID-19 vaccination committee," Roque said.

The ECQ implementation was announced a day after the Philippines registered at least 97 cases of the more infectious Delta variant.

Roque said Friday that around 18 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine have already been administered. Of this number, 7.8 million people are already fully vaccinated.

"For the past three days, we already breached 600,000 level of jabs administered in a day," he added.

The government is eyeing to vaccinate 58 million people in highly urbanized areas by the end of the year for population protection due to limited COVID-19 vaccine supply, but a higher target of vaccinating 70% to 80% of the country's 109 million population is needed to achieve herd immunity against COVID-19.

Roque has also said that the government will guarantee that the third dose of COVID-19 vaccine for all Filipinos will be funded under the 2022 budget.—AOL, GMA News
