326,400 Moderna doses arrive for gov’t, private sector

More than 300,000 doses of the US-made Moderna COVID-19 vaccine arrived in Manila on Sunday afternoon.

The shipment arrived at Ninoy Aquino Terminal Airport 3, according to state media PTV.

In a press conference after the arrival of the jabs, vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. said these doses were purchased by the private sector.

Metro Manila will receive 90,000 doses while the rest will be sent to areas where there is a surge.

"It will be deployed in NCR [National Capital Region] and other surge areas," said Galvez.

Galvez added that as of August 8, the Philippines has fully inoculated 11.2 million Filipinos, which represents 15.88% of target eligible population and 10.13% of the country's total population. Target eligible population refers to those aged 18 years old and above.

Galvez said so far Metro Manila has received two million Moderna doses. In August, Metro Manila will be receiving doses of Sinopharm vaccines.

Pfizer vaccines will also be delivered on August 11, while two million Sinovac doses will arrive on August 12, Galvez also revealed. — BM, GMA News
