15,000 Sputnik V vaccine doses arrive in NAIA

A total of 15,000 doses of the Sputnik V vaccine arrived in the Philippines Friday.

The Qatar Airways Flight QR-932 carrying the second component of the vaccine landed at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 at around 5 p.m.

Vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. on Wednesday said there were issues on  production and supply of second of Sputnik V, which may cause a delay in the delivery of the vaccine.

"There is the challenge of production of component 2. They are supplying to more or less 50 countries," Galvez had said.

He previously said AstraZeneca doses may be used for the second dose should the vaccines fail to arrive.

The Philippines has fully vaccinated over 12 million people as of August 12.

Meanwhile, a total of 1,713,302 cases have been recorded in the country, of which 1,587,069 have recovered and 29,838 have died.—AOL, GMA News
