OCTA Research looks to make name for public opinion polling like SWS, Pulse

OCTA Research Group, which made a name for its output on COVID-19 situation in the Philippines and the corresponding transmission rate of the virus, is also looking forward to doing public opinion polling similar to the Social Weather Stations (SWS) and Pulse Asia.

Professor Ranjit Rye of OCTA Research Group made the disclosure in an interview with journalist Malou Mangahas for GMA News and Public Affairs’ The Mangahas Interviews.

“We want to be an alternative in public opinion research. We benchmark ourselves with the best, and that’s SWS and Pulse Asia. We just want to be one of those,” Rye said.

“We want to continue the work they started in public opinion research,” he added.

Rye, however, said that their group still intends to provide COVID-19 data and projections for the public.

“We are are not even a year old, and it is really with COVID-19 data that we became known. We want to continue providing research to the public which are accessible and free,” he pointed out.

Rye also said that the looming congressional inquiry on methodology of OCTA Research, composed of academicians and doctors from UP and UST, is also a good gauge on moving forward.

“The congressional inquiry is a big factor. We welcome it and we hope it would be constructive, thoughtful, frank, and will illuminate suggestions,” he said.

“If the country does not appreciate what we are doing, then we will stop. But if they see value, no matter how small....we see value in our work and we would really want to continue. We want to continue as long as there is a need for our monitoring reports, and we see it is still going to be needed,” Rye added.—AOL, GMA News
