Robredo eyes meeting with Isko, Pacquiao for unity ticket in Eleksyon 2022

Vice President Leni Robredo is eyeing a meeting with Manila Mayor Isko Moreno and Senator Manny Pacquiao to form a united anti-administration ticket for the 2022 presidential polls.

“Mayroong plano pero hindi pa siya natutuloy (There is a plan for us three to meet but it is yet to push through),” Robredo said in an interview at the sidelines of the COVID-19 vaccination event.

“Pero ako kasi, ayaw ko rin na parang i-preempt. Ayaw kong i-preempt iyong detalye ng mga pinagmimitingan kasi ayaw ko rin na iyon pa tuloy iyong maging dahilan para hindi matuloy iyong mga usapan (But I don’t want to preempt the meeting by going into details because I don’t want to say something that could derail the plans),” she added.

Robredo said she is confident that they will be able to form a unity ticket before the last day of the filing of certificate of candidacy on October 8.

“Ako, para sa akin, hanggang sa last day hindi ko ipe-prevent iyong sarili ko mag-exert ng effort to seek out itong mga ibang puwedeng maging partners for 2022 (I am not going to give up on forming a unity ticket until the last day of the filing of candidacy),” she said.

“May kasabihan nga, ‘di ba, habang may buhay, may pag-asa. So hanggang puwede pa na magkaroon ng pagkakaisa, susubukan pa rin natin (As long as you’re alive, there is hope. As long as there is an opportunity to unite, I will try),” she added.

Robredo is trailing Moreno and Pacquiao in pre-election polls, but the Vice President said that it is more than just survey results and she is willing to run for president in 2022 polls as long as the unity ticket will back her up, regardless of who her opponents are.

“Kung ano iyong mapili ng unity ticket, tatakbo ako kung ako iyon. Kung one-on-one na Bongbong Marcos, lalaban ako kahit dehado. Kung one-on-one na Bongbong Marcos at saka ako, laban ako (If the unity ticket backs me up, then I will run for president. If I will have to go one-on-one against Bongbong Marcos, even if odds are stacked against me, I will fight),” Robredo said.

She was referring to former senator Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos whom she defeated in the 2016 vice presidential race.

Marcos earlier said he would easily beat Robredo in a one-on-one race.

“Iyon, kung kahit sino ang kalaban, basta ako iyong pipiliin ng anti-admin forces, laban ako. Iyong pine-prevent ko lang naman na kami-kami maghihiwa-hiwalay (No matter who is the opponent, as long as the anti-administration forces want me, I will fight),” she said.

“Iyon iyong pine-prevent ko kaya nag-e-exert ako ng effort na pag-isahin lahat (What I am trying to do here is prevent the opposition from being fragmented, that is why I am putting so much effort in establishing a united opposition),” she added.—AOL, GMA News
