Philippines receives US-donated 561,500 additional Pfizer COVID-19 doses


The national government on Monday night welcomed the arrival of 561,500 more doses of American-made Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines.

State-sponsored media PTV reported that the Pfizer shipment were donations of United States government through the COVAX facility.

In a Talk to the People, vaccine czar Carlito Galvez said Philippines received 64,942,000 total vaccines. Of this number, 16,067,680 were donated through COVAX facility.

As of Sept. 20, 18,560,409 Filipinos are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. This number is still far from the target for herd immunity, which aims to fully vaccinate 70% of Philippine population.

The country also recorded an average of 405,669 COVID-19 jabs per day.—LDF, GMA News
