1Sambayan: Screening process to determine Eleksyon 2022 bets in its final days

Opposition coalition 1Sambayan is moving closer to determining its candidates for the May 2022 national and local elections.

In a statement, 1Sambayan said the coalition is now in the “final days” of screening nominees, which includes a survey among its members. The poll began on September 12 and will end on September 25.

“The internal survey also includes questions about issues our members want to include in our Pambato’s platform of government. The survey results is also just one of several datasets that convenors will use in selecting our Pambato,” 1Sambayan said.

“In the spirit of unity, and as we hold the internal survey, we are continuously in close contact with all of our nominees. And in a few days, we will be making the announcement for our Pambato.”

In June, 1Sambayan announced Vice President Leni Robredo, former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV, Senator Grace Poe, CIBAC party-list Representative Eduardo Villanueva, lawyer Chel Diokno, and Batangas Representative Vilma Santos-Recto as their nominees for presidential and vice presidential posts in the upcoming elections.

Poe, Diokno, and Santos-Recto declined their nominations, while Senator Joel Villanueva believed his father— Representative Villanueva— will not gun for the presidency due to the recent tragedy in their family.

1Sambayan emphasized how important the 2022 elections are for the nation.

“It is a make-or-break for our democracy; it is a vote for our survival,” it said.

“We in 1Sambayan are united in our call for better leaders and healing for our country and our future, as we aim to put an end to the Duterte regime or any of its extensions.” — RSJ, GMA News
