A cadet of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) died on Thursday after he was allegedly punched a number of times by his upperclassman.

The Silang Police identified the victim as Cadet Third Class George Karl Magsayo, 21, from Pagadian City.

The incident happened at about 5:40 p.m. of September 23, when Magsayo and his companion supposedly went to the room of the suspect, identified as Cadet Second Class Steve Ceasar Maingat.

Magsayo lost his consciousness and was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival at 6:43 p.m., police said.

"It is with deep sorrow that we confirm the sudden demise of Cdt 3C George Karl Magsayo," the PNPA administration said in a statement.

"An extensive investigation is being conducted to ferret out the truth about what happened that led to this tragic but isolated incident while the body of Cdt Magsayo is subject to an autopsy to determine the cause of death. We would like to assure everyone especially the family that we WILL MAKE ANYONE ACCOUNTABLE should the findings so warrant and GIVE JUSTICE TO WHOM IT IS DUE," it added.

The PNPA said it maintains a strict “No To Hazing Policy” in adherence to the values of respect for human life and rights which are inculcated among their cadets and personnel.
