Amid pressing supporters, Robredo says she has two weeks to decide on Eleksyon 2022 bid

Vice President Leni Robredo said she still has two weeks to decide on her candidacy in Eleksyon 2022 as her supporters wait for her decision if she will run for President.

In her weekly radio program, Robredo also reiterated that she is still hopeful for unity talks with other opposition candidates.

"Wala akong choice kundi magdesisyon bago mag-October 8. Ang decision ko kapag magpa-file kailangan handa na ako mag-decide. Sa 'kin kasi dalawang linggo pa," the Vice President said.

(I have no choice but to decide before October 8. I need to be ready with my decision and we still have two weeks.)

"Tinitignan natin kung may pag-asa pa magsama-sama. Siguro may ibang 'di na natin maaaya pero hanggang may communication lines na bukas, patuloy ko pa rin ipu-pursue," she added.

(We are still hoping for unity. There may be others who we can't talk to anymore but as long as communication lines are open, I will still pursue them.)

She said she is mulling if her candidacy for presidency will stop the Marcoses from returning to presidential bid and will end alleged corruption.

Meanwhile, Robredo said she acknowledges her supporters but stressed that the decision for elections will "ultimately" be based on the greater good of the countrymen.

She added that candidacy for elections should not rely on popularity in pre-election surveys or popularity among Filipinos.

"Sana 'yung decision namin lahat, kung ano makabubuti sa kababayan. Alam ko ang difficulty. Lahat kami may supporters," Robredo said when asked about the tandem of Manila Mayor Isko Moreno and former senatorial candidate Dr. Willie Ong in Eleksyon 2022.

(I hope our decisions will be for the greater good of our people. I know the difficulty [of having to decide] because we all have our own supporters.)

"Lahat kami may supporters lalo na kung ang desisyon namin mag-slide down, 'di magkakandidato, magtatampo 'yung supporters namin. 'Yung iba, 'di lang tampo. 'Yung iba magagalit pa," she further pointed out.

(We have supporters and they might get mad at us or be cold toward us if we will not run for the polls.)

"Pero ultimately, sino ba paninilbihan natin? Sana 'yung titingnan natin kung ano makakabuti," Robredo said.

(But ultimately, who are we serving? I hope we look at what's best for all of us.)

Senator Manny Pacquiao and Moreno had bared their presidential bid despite talks with Robredo on fielding a unity candidate for the opposition.

But Robredo is hopeful that since Duterte administration bets are formidable, there is a need for a unified opposition candidate. —KG, GMA News
