Kapa founder Joel Apolinario’s representatives file his COC for senator in Eleksyon 2022

Kapa founder Joel Apolinario’s representatives file his COC for senator in Eleksyon 2022

The representatives of detained Kapa Community Ministry International founder, Pastor Joel Apolinario, have filed his certificate of candidacy for senator on Saturday.

Speaking before the media, one of his representatives, Rev. Danie Brioso, presented Apolinario’s platforms.

His proposed programs have an acronym “JOEL” which stands for job for the jobless, opportunity to provide lands to the homeless, enhanced educational and health system, and livelihood to reduce poverty and inequality.

In a phone interview with GMA News Online, Apolinario’s spokesperson, Dr. Danilo B. Mangahas, said Apolinario was urged by his members to run for the Senate.

“Nagbigay siya ng statement. Sumulat siya mula sa kulungan at tinatanggap niya ang mga hamon ng miyembro,” Mangahas said.

(He gave a statement. He wrote a letter from his detention cell, stating that he accepts the challenge of his members.)

To recall, Apolinario and 23 other individuals were arrested in Surigao del Sur in July 2020.

The Bislig Trial Court Branch 29 ordered the arrest of Apolinario, and several individuals affiliated with Kapa.

State prosecutors have filed criminal charges against the Kapa officers for violations of the Securities Regulation Code based on allegations by the corporate regulator.

The Securities and Exchange Commission had accused Kapa of enticing the public to invest at least P10,000 into the organization in exchange for a 30% monthly return for life "without having to do anything other than invest and wait for the payout."

Prosecutors from the Department of Justice had found the officers sold or offered securities for sale without filing a registration statement with the SEC. —KG, GMA News
