Sara Duterte accepts Lakas-CMD chairmanship

Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte on Wednesday accepted the chairmanship of Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD), the political party that is leading her campaign for vice president in the May 2022 elections.

This comes after Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. earlier in the day offered his position to the presidential daughter.

“I am honored to accept the chairmanship of Lakas-CMD,” Duterte said in a statement sent by her spokesperson Liloan, Cebu Mayor Christina Frasco to GMA News Online.

“Together with the party, I look forward to waging a successful campaign for Uniteam BBM-Sara, with the invaluable support of our fellow Filipinos,” she added.

On November 11, Duterte joined Lakas-CMD after leaving Hugpong ng Pagbabago, the regional party she founded.

Two days later, Duterte filed her certificate of candidacy for vice president for Eleksyon 2022 under the Lakas-CMD party via the substitution route.

On Tuesday, Duterte confirmed that she would run alongside presidential aspirant Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.  — VBL, GMA News
