Lightning disrupts LRT Line 2 operation

MANILA, Philippines - The operation of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) Line 2 was disrupted Tuesday evening after lightning hit the system's power supply. LRT media consultant Jinky Jorgio said lightning hit the power supply about 6:45 p.m.. "Kalahating linya kami ngayon ... Tinamaan ng kidlat ang power supply 6:45 p.m. (We can operate only at half capacity now, lightning hit our power supply)," Jorgio said in an interview over dzBB radio. She said they have yet to get an advisory from the Manila Electric Co. when power can be restored. Meanwhile, the sudden downpour in Metro Manila disrupted traffic in several parts of Manila and Quezon City, including the Sta. Mesa district. Radio dzBB reported that floods along Aurora Boulevard near Cubao were gutter-deep, while V. Mapa Street and Ramon Magsaysay Boulevard in Sta. Mesa were flooded. Traffic was snarled as motorists ignored traffic rules and tried to get ahead of each other. Vehicle traffic along the northbound lane of Epifanio de los Santos Avenue from Makati to Ortigas was also heavy. - GMANews.TV
