Misamis broadcaster dies in predawn ambush


(Update) MANILA, Philippines – Investigations into the killing of a radioman in Misamis Occidental are ongoing, the victim’s colleague said Monday. In an interview on dzBB, Joy Reyes of Radio DXSY in Ozamiz City said authorities are looking into the killing of Ernie Rullen, who was ambushed at about 5:30 a.m. in Oroquieta City. Reyes said that Rullen and his wife, Laya (who was identified in an earlier report as Ligaya) came from their hometown in Oroquieta and were about to report to work in Ozamiz. Citing initial reports, Reyes said Rullen parked his motorcycle at a waiting shed and went to a nearby Seaoil gas station when he was gunned down by unidentified armed men. Reyes said they have yet to determine whether the motive behind his killing was work related, adding that the victim hosts Bantay Lunsod, a blocktime program on DXSY from 7:30 to 9 a.m. - Sophia Dedace, GMANews.TV
