Armed men attack radio station in Abra


MANILA, Philippines - Unidentified motorcycle-riding men fired at the compound of a Church-run radio station in Abra province Wednesday night, a radio report said Thursday. Bombo Radyo reported that the men hit the steel plate gate of St. Arnold Janssen Communication Center, which houses radio station dzPA of Catholic Media Network (CMN). CMN runs Radio Veritas in Manila. The incident occurred at 9 p.m. Wednesday, the report said. Initial reports said the men used high-powered firearms, with one of them firing his weapon in the air. The compound also houses dwWM Spirit FM, diocesan weekly newspaper "Abra Today," and CBCP Word Internet Cafe run by the Diocese of Bangued. CMN said the incident took place a month after armed men fired at the house of "Abra Today" reporter Marjorie Bandayrel Trinidad in Zone 3, Bangued, Abra. Trinidad and her family are housed at the St. Arnold Janssen Communication Center. Bangued Mayor Dominic Valera condemned the incident and ordered the local police to investigate the incident in 24 hours. - GMANews.TV
