Tropical Depression Usman affected at least 1,200 families or 4,900 persons in Regions V and VIII, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Sunday.

Usman, which weakened on Saturday into a low pressure area (LPA), also affected roads in the said regions.

Meanwhile, more than 1,000 families or 2,500 persons evacuated in 29 barangays in the provinces of Region VIII due to the dangers and effects brought by Usman.

A total of 78 areas were reported flooded in Regions V and VIII, according to the NDRRMC's 6 a.m. report on Sunday.

Since Thursday, 36 flights were canceled.

In CALABARZON and MIMAROPA, 59 areas experienced power interruptions during the bad weather.

Also, more than 3,700 passengers and 28 vessels were stranded in ports.

On Friday, local government units in Borongan City and Tacloban City suspended work both in private and public offices and institutions to secure the safety of employees.

On Thursday, 20 areas were under Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 1 as Usman traversed the country. However, on Saturday, all TCWS were lifted after Usman weakened into an LPA. —Joviland Rita/KG, GMA News
