Marinduque Governor Carmencita Reyes dies at 87

Marinduque Governor Carmencita Reyes died Monday morning (January 7, 2019) at the age of 87, according to a report by GMA's Paul Jaysent Fos.

In a separate Facebook post by her grandson, Lorenzo Reyes Vega said the political matriarch has "peacefully joined her Creater and her husband."

"Nanay Carmencita will be always remembered for her dedicated and untiring service to the people of Marinduque," the younger Reyes wrote in his post.

The governor's remains will be at the Heritage Memorial Park in Taguig City on Wednesday (January 9) for public viewing.

In lieu of flowers, the governor's family urges donations to the Monastery of St. Clare in Barangay Bantad, Boac, Marinduque.

Reyes had served the province as Assemblywoman and Congresswoman before being elected governor.

She had been eyeing another House seat in the 2019 midterm elections and filed a certificate of candidacy (COC), but later dropped out of the race to retire.

She was married to former Immigration Commissioner Edmundo Reyes Sr.

Condolences

Some lawmakers have conveyed their condolences to the family of the late governor.

On Facebook, Senator Nancy Binay issued a statement saying: "Her dedication and untiring service to the people of Marinduque will always be remembered."

Senator Sonny Angara, on the other hand, extended his sympathies in a simple tweet.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government also paid tribute to "Nanay Carmencita" and her "faithful and committed service" to Marinduque.
