More than 650 kilos of garbage collected in Boac River in Marinduque

BOAC, Marinduque - More than 650 kilos of garbage were collected from the 27-kilometer Boac River in Marinduque on Friday when volunteers joined a cleanup to observe World Water Day.

The Provincial Environmental and Natural Resources Office (PEMRO) said 659 kilos of garbage were collected from the Boac River which spans 26 barangays.

The cleanup took all morning and was participated in by at least 2,350 residents, government employees, and volunteers from non-government organizations.

Boac River was one of those severely affected by the Marcopper mining disaster on March 24, 1996 after a tunnel of the Marcopper Mining Corporation collapsed.
