Sara vows to knock out communist insurgency in Davao City in three years

Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte wants to rid the city of communist insurgency in three years.

Sara, daughter of President Rodrigo Duterte, made the announcement during a recent gathering of barangay officials.

She said the strategy will take off from Peace 911—a peace and development program which seeks to counter the influence of communist rebels and was piloted in the city’s Paquibato district.

"Our target is a 100-percent insurgency-free Davao City, and we need to be united in such an effort for the next three years," Sara said.

Paquibato district, according to Sara, has already been declared insurgency-free after decades of being ruled by the communist movement.

Sara said that Peace 911 will be adopted in 18 other barangays identified as conflict areas due to the presence of the communist rebels.

These places include barangays Bantol, Dalag Lumot, Gumitan, Malamba, Tambobong, Salaysay, Suawan, Tamugan, Carmen, Manuel Guianga, Talandang, Tamayong, Sirib, Baracatan, Catigan, Sibulan, Tagurano, and Tungkalan. — Llanesca T. Panti/KG, GMA News
