Eight passengers were hurt when the bus they were riding fell about 50 meters off a bridge along the Andaya Highway in Barangay Magais, Del Gallego town in Camarines Sur late Monday evening.

Some passengers related that the bus was already moving from side to side before sliding then falling to its side crushing part of the concrete barrier along the highway.

It was raining very hard at the time of the accident.

The passengers, in order to get out of the bus, had to break the back window.

The injured passengers were brought to the Tagkawayan District Hospital in Tagkawayan, Quezon. They were then transferred to a hospital in Naga City, Camarines Sur.

Del Gallego Municipal Police Station police officers said the bus was from Sorsogon and on its way to Manila when the accident happened.

The Del Gallego police are conducting an investigation into the accident to determine the cause.

The driver and conductor of the ALPS bus were placed under the custody of the Del Gallego Municipal Police officers.

Meanwhile, as of past 7 a.m., the bus was still at the crash site.

Passengers' belongings have been retrieved, and passengers who were unhurt continued on their journey to Manila onboard another ALPS bus.

The management of the bus company gave the assurance that they will pay for the hospitalization expenses of those who were injured.

Rolly Cao, the driver of the bus, said the vehicle's tires slid after he stepped on the brake. The bus then fell off the highway.

He was thankful that no one died in the accident.

Passengers said they had no plans to file a case. —Peewee Bacuño/BAP/KG, GMA News
