Philippine Navy donates P700k worth of relief goods to Taal victims


The Philippine Navy has donated almost P700,000 worth of relief goods and brought them to San Luis, Batangas in aid of the thousands of victims displaced by Taal Volcano's eruption two weeks ago.

Vice Admiral Robert Empedrad, the Flag Officer in Command of the Philippine Navy, turned over the goods to the Municipality Social Welfare Development (MSWD) of San Luis on Sunday morning.

According to a press release, the relief goods, which contained a pail, a kilo of rice, assorted canned goods and food packs, bottles of water and a hygiene kit, were distributed to evacuation sites in Barangays Poblacion, Taliba and Calumpang West.

Other items brought by the Navy to the evacuees were 2,500 packs of relief items from the Yes Pinoy Foundation, which is chaired by Dingdong Dantes.

Earlier, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) on Sunday downgraded the status of Taal Volcano to Alert Level 3 from Alert Level 4.

Alert Level 3 means the volcano has a decreased tendency towards hazardous eruption. — Ma. Angelica Garcia/BM, GMA News
