Sara Duterte under self-quarantine for coronavirus —mayor's office

Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio has placed herself under quarantine, which would last for the next few days, due to her possible exposure to the coronavirus from China.

A statement from her office indicates that Mayor Inday Sara signed up as a Person Under  Monitoring (PUM) with the Davao City Health Office after one of her household employees began feeling unwell.

Also, she made her decision after her meeting with Senator Sherwin Gatchalian, who earlier announced he was undergoing self-quarantine following his Senate committee hearing attended by a COVID-19 positive guest.

Sara's household employee has also been listed under PUM.

“Mayor Sara Duterte shall undergo a voluntary monitored home quarantine and has signed up as a Person Under Monitoring under the Davao City Health Office.  While Mayor Sara has not suffered from flu-like symptoms, she chose to undergo self-quarantine to protect others if she may be found to be sick in the next few days,” part of the Davao City mayor's office statement reads.

“She is now confined in an isolated bedroom at her residence and will continue to work through emails, messaging, and video teleconferencing,” it said, adding that constituents with urgent matters to discuss with the mayor may directly send a message through her mobile phone number.

As of March 12, there are at least 49 COVID-19 cases in the Philippines, according to the Department of Health. —Llanesca T. Panti/LBG, GMA News
