Authorities seize 21k marijuana plants worth P4.2M in Sulu


A total of 21,000 full-grown marijuana plants estimated to be worth P4.2 million were seized by authorities from five plantations in Sulu on Friday.

The plants were discovered in the municipality of Kalingalang Caluang, the Naval Forces Western Mindanao said.

Joint forces from the naval intelligence, Philippine Marine Corps and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Sulu went to Sitio Mangal Mangal in Barangay Masjid Punjungan in Caluang at 4 a.m. on Friday to arrest a known drug personality and his cohorts.

However, the drug personality and his cohorts were not at the site during the raid.

Authorities then discovered the marijuana plants, uprooted them then burned them on site.

The Naval Forces Western Mindanao said the Fleet-Marine Team will continue to work with other government agencies to go after the owner of the plantations and put a stop to marijuana cultivation in Sulu. —KG, GMA News
