7 protesters arrested in Cebu City

At least seven individuals were arrested for conducting protest action in front of the University of the Philippines in Cebu City on Friday.

A Dobol B sa News TV report by John Kim Bote stated that the mass protest was held condemning the controversial anti-terror bill. Police said they were arrested for violating quarantine guidelines as mass protests are still banned at the moment.

The report said one of those arrested was the leader of Bayan Central Visayas.

The individuals were brought to Cebu City Police Station.

The College Editors Guild of the Philippines condemned the arrest is an attack against free speech.

"This is a clear demonstration of a fascist administration's attempts to curtail our right to free speech. The threats and attacks against protesters and continuous red-tagging are outright violations of our human rights," said CEGP national president Daryl Angelo Baybado.

One of those arrested is Dyan Gumanao, former correspondent of ANINAW, a Cebu-based alternative media group.
