Cebu City now has more than 7,000 cases of COVID-19

The number of confirmed cases in Cebu City breached the 7,000-mark on Tuesday, according to Ian Cruz’s report on “24 Oras" on Wednesday.

As of July 7, 5 p.m., Cebu City has recorded a total of 7,015 cases of COVID-19 including 3,852 active cases.

The death toll was also recorded at 253.

Cebu City, the only area under enhanced community quarantine, has the largest number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the country.

Cebu City Mayor Edgar Labella urged all barangay captains to do their job to help prevent the further spread of the virus.

“I am appealing to them that this is not the time for us to be involved in political posturing. Let’s stay focused. Let’s not be affected by that,” Labella said.

The Cebu City government also provided a P1 million budget for the 18 barangays to address the COVID-19 situation in their respective areas.

Nationwide, cases of COVID-19 reached 50,359 on Wednesday with 12,588 recoveries and 1,314 fatalities. —Ma. Angelica Garcia/LDF, GMA News
