BTA gives green light to Bangsamoro Sports Commission

The Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) on Thursday approved the creation of the Bangsamoro Sports Commission for the development of sports programs in the region.

All 51 members of parliament were in favor of the passage of Committee Bill No. 52 titled “An act creating Bangsamoro Sports Commission, providing for its mandate, powers, and functions, appropriating funds therefore, and for other purposes.”

The Commission will be in charge of formulating policies, and promoting, regulating, coordinating and implementing programs for sports in the region.

“We can realize the essence of Bangsamoro as united people if we can establish among our youth the concept of teamwork. That's why we need the sports commission in the Bangsamoro Government,” parliament member Ziaur-Rahman Alonto Adiong said in a statement.

The sports commission will be composed of a chairperson, four commissioners, and two ex-officio commissioners, equally represented from the geographic units of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, and will be appointed by the chief minister.

The creation of the commission is under Section 20, Article 9 of the Republic Act No. 11054, or the Bangsamoro Organic Law. -- Ma. Angelica Garcia/BAP, GMA News
