Tourism official introduces Bongbong Marcos as 'vice president'

The director of the Department of Tourism in the Ilocos region introduced former Senator Bongbong Marcos as the country's vice president at a DOT event in Region 1.

In his Instagram, DOT regional director Jeff Ortega posted a video of the launch of the region's tourism branding, in which he introduced the defeated vice presidential candidate as the country's second highest elected official.

Ortega posted the video on his Instagram last week and had over 11,000 views as of posting time. It appears to have been taken down.

Others in attendance were local officials and tourism stakeholders in the Ilocos region.

Marcos has a pending election protest against Robredo before the Presidential Electoral Tribunal.

Robredo defeated Marcos in 2016 by over 260,000 votes.

Her lead over the son of the late former dictator increased in 2019 after the manual recount in the three pilot provinces Marcos chose in his protest.

In a statement, the opposition Liberal Party urged the PET to already dismiss Marcos' poll protest.

Robredo's party said she defeated Marcos by 263,474 votes in the 2016 vice presidential race.

“This lead further grew to 278,566 votes with an additional 15,093 votes from a recount that Mr. Marcos himself pushed for. Malinaw na panalo si VP Leni noong 2016. Malinaw na siya rin ang nagwagi sa recount,” LP said.

“Wala nang dapat hintayin pa ang Korte Suprema. Wala nang dahilan para pahabain pa ang kasong ito,” it added.

According to the Supreme Court sitting as the PET, Robredo's lead in the three provinces — Negros Oriental, Iloilo, and Camarines Sur — increased by some 15,000 votes. -NB, GMA News
