Simbang Gabi attendees fail to keep distancing rule in some Cebu parishes

Many attendees to the first Simbang Gabi on Wednesday in some churches in Cebu City failed to observe the social distancing protocol to deter further spread of COVID-19.

Super Radyo Cebu’s John Kim Bote on Dobol B sa News TV showed some pictures of churchgoers packed outside Sto. Tomas De Villanueva church in Barangay Poblacion, Pardo.

Cebu mayor Edgardo Labella said most of the big churches in the city are following the health protocols in light of COVID-19 such as the allowed number of people inside the church.

However, the people outside churches who were attending the mass are hard to manage.

Despite the prohibition, senior citizens and children went to churches to join the the first day of Simbang Gabi.

Due to this, Labella set a meeting with concerned sectors such as the local police and church authorities to discuss the matter.

Labella encouraged churchgoers to follow health protocols  in the same manner they observe their doctrines. —LBG, GMA News
