DOH to investigate baby-switching at hospital in Rizal

The Department of Health will investigate the switching of newborns that appear to have happened at a hospital in Rizal in January.

According to Ivan Mayrina's report on "24 Oras", the hospital will face the suspension of its license or a fine if the investigation showed it was negligent.

"Papa-imbestigahan namin kung ano nangyari and kung talagang may negligence on the part of the hospital kasama yung kanilang personnel," said Atty. Nicolas Lutero, director of the DOH's Health Facilities and Services Regulatory Bureau.

"Then magsa-sanction kami, baka i-suspend namin ang kanilang lisensiya or impose a fine," he added.

An exclusive report on Kapusa Mo, Jessica Soho on Sunday presented the story of April Sifiata who gave birth at the Rizal facility on January 18.

"Sure po ako na hindi ko anak 'yun," April said of the baby who's now in her custody. "May mga picture kami na hawak na hindi po talaga siya 'yun."

April's sister said the baby's tag also showed that she was born on January 17.

A DNA test confirmed their fears.

"Ang result ang DNA test ay negative," a medical expert concluded.

"The probability of maternity is zero percent. Ibig sabihin po nito, hindi niyo anak ang hawak niyong sanggol." -NB, GMA News
