Lightning kills teen in Occidental Mindoro amid Dante’s onslaught —OCD Mimaropa

The Office of Civil Defense-Mimaropa on Thursday reported that a 19-year-old man died after a lightning strike hit him in San Jose, Occidental Mindoro amid the onslaught of Tropical Storm Dante.

In a report, the OCD-Mimaropa said the victim Arnel Emabanecido and his companion took shelter under a sampaloc tree in Barangay Mapayapa when a rain with strong thunder and lightning came on Tuesday.

Emabanecido was hit by lightning which burned the right side of his body.

“He was brought to the Wesmin Hospital by his relatives but unfortunately there is no attending physician to check his condition,” the OCD–Mimaropa said.

“So they immediately transferred him to Asilo Hospital but was declared dead on arrival,” it added.

Due to Dante, 130 people or 29 families in seven barangays in Romblon and Marinduque were affected. At least 94 people or 21 families were staying in evacuation centers.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said four people were reported dead while seven persons were missing in Mimaropa, Western Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Davao, and Soccsksargen due to Dante.
