Maine Mendoza tops ‘Ang Pinaka’s’ list of the most popular online sensations

When the Dubsmash mobile app became a hit, a lot of Pinoys started making their own videos but eventually, one girl stood out from all the lipsynching frenzy---Maine Mendoza or better known as Yaya Dub, the better half of the AlDub loveteam.

Maine caught netizens’ attention with her on-point Dubsmash impersonation of Kris Aquino. In her interview with “Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho,” she said that she was already happy when this video gained 1,000 views but she didn’t expect that the numbers would suddenly explode to 1,000,000 in just 24 hours.

After going viral, the management of “Eat Bulaga” saw potential in her and after a VTR test and interview, they gave her the role of Divina Ursula Bukbukova Smash or Yaya Dub, the assistant of Wally Bayola’s Lola Nidora, in the “Juan for All, All for One” segment of the show. And as many Pinoys now know, this break paved the way to the accidental loveteam and phenomenon AlDub, with Kapuso actor Alden Richards.

With Maine’s undeniable fame both online and offline, it’s no surprise that she topped the list of “Ang Pinaka’s” most popular online sensations today. “Ang Pinaka” spoke with popular culture and social media experts to analyze Maine’s appeal to netizens and television viewers.
