Who knew that Kapuso leading lady Isabel Oli and comedienne Maey Bautista could wield guns and don military fatigues, while still being their pretty, kooky selves?  In a recent episode of GMA News TV’s "Day Off," the duo took over the daily duties of Police Superintendent Mario Baquiran, Jr., a longtime policeman in desperate need of a vacation.
Isabel gets pointers on firing a gun while Maey looks on.
After joining the Philippine Army 15 years ago, Mario now serves as an officer of the elite PNP Special Action Force or SAF. The SAF handles counter terrorism operations and search and rescue operations after calamities. Members of the elite force not only go through intense physical training, but are often sent on out-of-town assignments during which they are separated from their families for extended periods.  This, says Mario, is the biggest sacrifice he has to make for his job. “Day Off” rewarded Mario and his family with an action-packed weekend of kayaking, jet-skiing, and mud karting at Puerto Galera. Meanwhile, “Day Off” hosts Isabel and Maey spent the day as SAF Lady Troopers.  They learned how to jump out of a helicopter and even how to handle explosives. At the highlight of the episode, the girls learned how to fire guns at a target board. < Which lucky Pinoy will get a much-needed “Day Off” next week, and what job will the “Day Off” hosts tackle next?
