'Pop Talk' Vigan Food Crawl Specials
Part 1: The Road Trip to Vigan - Sept. 27
Part 2: Vigan Food Crawl - Oct. 4

Out of 1,200 cities around the world, Vigan in Ilocos Sur has recently been named one of the top 21 finalists in the ‘New7Wonders Cities of the World.’
‘Pop Talk’ aims to help the lone Philippine city-finalist in its bid with a two-part special dubbed as ‘Pop Talk: Vigan Food Crawl.’
The special rediscovers Vigan as a world heritage city and a world-class food destination through its unique food culture.
In Part 1, host Tonipet Gaba takes the off-beaten track to Vigan to discover different food and food experiences in Candon (‘calamay’ or glutinous rice cake), Narvacan (‘lagdaw or jumping shrimp salad, ‘tarukoy’ or small crabs, ‘kamangeg’ or local rootcrop dish), and Sta. Maria (‘dinuydoy’ or squash dish, ‘adobong utong’ or string beans).
In Part 2, Tonipet reaches Vigan and takes us to a food crawl around the city that goes beyond the usual bagnet-longganisa-pinakbet Ilocano food fare.
In ‘Tawid-gutom’, he scours the streets and the local market for some authentic Ilocano carinderia dishes like ‘sinanglao’, ‘lomo-lomo’ and others.
In ‘Kayod-kain’, he learns the ropes of traditional abel cloth weaving and shares a merienda of ‘patupat’ (glutinous rice cooked in sugarcane juice) and ‘pipian’ (chicken-and-rice stew) with the local weavers.
And in ‘Ang Nawawala’, Tonipet retrieves ‘forgotten and almost lost’ Ilocano recipes like the ‘salapusop’, a rice-based delicacy, and reintroduces it to the new generation.
‘Pop Talk: Vigan Food Crawl’ special airs on the following dates: Part 1 on September 27 and Part 2 on October 4 , 8:00 pm on GMA News TV.
