Filipina charged with illegal voting 22 days before U.S. midterm elections
NEW YORK — Just 22 days before the US midterm elections, a Filipina lawful permanent resident was added to the list of individuals charged by the US Department of Justice (DOJ) in connection with alleged illegal voting.
The 63-year-old Filipina is among 15 lawful permanent residents and one undocumented immigrant charged with illegal voting, fraudulent voter registration, and related election crimes across the country.
The cases involve allegations including non-U.S. citizens voting in federal elections; falsely claiming U.S. citizenship to register or vote; voting on behalf of deceased individuals; voting multiple times in the same election; making false statements on citizenship applications; and unlawfully obtaining U.S. citizenship.
The Filipina is a lawful permanent resident in the Northern District of Ohio, according to the US DOJ.
According to voting records, the Filipina registered to vote in September 2004 and again in February 2023. On voter registration forms, her signature appears next to the declaration: “I declare under penalty of election falsification I am a citizen of the United States.”
She allegedly voted in several primary and general elections.
According to the criminal complaint, the Filipina told investigators that the person who helped her complete the voter registration paperwork told her she was allowed to vote even though she was not a U.S. citizen.
She was charged in a criminal complaint with unlawfully voting in a federal election as a non-U.S. citizen.
She is the fifth Filipino citizen known to have been federally charged or prosecuted for unlawfully voting in U.S. elections since 2025. —LDF, GMA News
