Embassy checking for Filipino casualties in Spain train collision
The Philippine embassy in Madrid is coordinating with local authorities to determine whether any Filipinos were involved in the high-speed train collision in southern Spain.
A Madrid-bound night train on January 18 went off the rail and crossed over to the opposite tracks, colliding with an oncoming train in Adamuz, near the city of Córdoba, killing at least 39 and wounding dozens.
"Our thoughts are with the victims, their families and all those affected," the embassy said in a statement.
Around four hundred passengers and staff were onboard both trains, reports said.
"Emergency services are responding to the scene. All rail services between Madrid and Andalusia were suspended following the accident and are expected to remain closed on Monday, 19 January 2026," the embassy said in a public advisory.
Spanish officials in the region of Andalusia urges any crash survivors to notify friends and family of their safety.
