Viral video: Female OFW attacked by foreigner inside Singapore mall
A video went viral online wherein a foreign man inside a mall in Singapore repeatedly kicked a female overseas Filipino worker (OFW).
According to JP Soriano’s report on “24 Oras” on Tuesday, the video showed the victim and the suspect talking. But moments later, the man kicked the OFW on her side, causing her to fall down.
The man kicked the OFW again, but this time on her head. The OFW, however, was able to dodge the kick.
The Department of Migrant Workers said that the Philippine labor attaché in Singapore already identified the woman in the video. Authorities already reached out to her about the assistance she could receive.
“Nag-uusap na yung ating Migrant Workers Office labor attaché in Singapore, but ngayon inaalam pa natin ang exact cause ng pangyayari and of course, medical assistance is the most basic there, and of course, yung filing of the complaint, our lawyer would stand ready to help her,” said DMW Secretary Hans Cacdac.
(Our Migrant Workers Office labor attaché in Singapore is already in discussions, but we are currently still determining the exact cause of the incident. Of course, medical assistance is the primary priority, and regarding the filing of the complaint, our lawyer stands ready to assist her.)
The OFW reported the incident to the labor attaché, but the details have yet to be made public.
“It’s assault, physical assault. It’s a crime anywhere in the world, especially in Singapore. We are looking into it and filing the necessary legal actions,” said Cacdac.
Over 200,000 Filipinos are working in Singapore. While most are household service workers, the number of skilled and professional workers has also been increasing over the past few years. —Vince Angelo Ferreras/LDF, GMA Integrated News
