PH Embassy in Singapore extends best wishes to Alex Eala, issued advisory to Pinoy sports fans

The Philippine Embassy in Singapore personnel met with tennis star Alex Eala and extended their best wishes as participates in the Singapore Tennis Open, WTA 500 and issued reminders on materials that would be brought to sports events.

The Embassy also issued an advisory for sports enthusiasts, who will be cheering on and supporting Eala and other Filipino athletes, on the proper use of Philippine symbols.

In an advisory, the Embassy said "the use and display of national flags during events or community gatherings in Singapore, must at all times be in accordance with the Republic Act 8491 or the Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines; and with respect to the host government’s rules and regulations."

Improper Use:

• Always keep the flag in proper position, never touching the ground or reversed.

Improper Display:

• It should not be used as clothing, uniform, costumes, accessories, curtains, or ceiling decor. Do not use it as a pennant on the hood, side, back and top of motor vehicles. Avoid printing on napkins, cushions, packaging, ads, or products for sale.

Mutilation and Alteration:

• Memes, protest props, or acts that insult the flag are prohibited. No logos, writings, or changes should be made to its design.

The Embassy advised Filipinos to follow venue rules in using fan boards and banners and to take note of restrictions on banner size, placement, and materials.

"Banners and fan boards should avoid political, offensive, or commercial messaging unless approved by management. Messages of support, cultural pride, or community spirit are generally acceptable," it also said.

"In Kallang Stadium, flags can be brought in provided they do not display political messages or offensive slogans, and advertisements, and do not exceed A3 size (29.7 cm x42 cm)," it added.
