Some Filipinos affected by the bus accident in Bavaria are back in Milan, Italy — PCG Frankfurt

Some Filipinos who were affected by the bus accident on the A96 near Buchloe, Bavaria are already back in Milan, according to the Philippine Consulate General in Frankfurt (PCG Frankfurt).

In a statement, PCG Frankfurt confirmed that at least 28 Filipinos are either already in Milan or are en route to the Italian city.

"Three Filipinos remain in hospitals in Bavaria," the PCG Frankfurt added.

"A team, led by Philippine Consul General in Frankfurt Marie Yvette Banzon Abalos, with the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) led by Undersecretary Jainal Rasul, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) led by Administrator PY Caunan and the Philippine Honorary Consul in Munich Dr. Stefan Detig remain on the ground in Bavaria to coordinate closely with the affected Filipino nationals, their families and German authorities."

On Tuesday, the PCG Frankfurt said seven of the affected Filipinos, who were cleared for travel, returned to Milan aboard transport provided by OWWA and were escorted by an MWO-Milan representative.

According to the PCG Frankfurt, "Undersecretary Rasul spoke with German police regarding the importance of a thorough investigation, particularly in view of possible future legal proceedings. PCG Frankfurt has facilitated consultations with lawyers to be able to provide appropriate legal assistance to those affected."

It is the third day that the PCG conducted hospital visits and meetings with authorities to monitor the other Filipinos who are still undergoing medical treatment, to ascertain their condition, needs and provide appropriate assistance.

The Consulate General also posted its 24/7 hotline at +49 151 53546841.

On Sunday, Agence France Presse reported based on a police report that two Filipinos were killed when a bus carrying them to the Oktoberfest beer festival in southern Germany overturned on a motorway.

The accident, which occurred around 0400 GMT, left eight others seriously injured.

The coach, chartered by a travel company, was carrying a group of around 50 Filipino tourists to the Oktoberfest in Munich, a spokeswoman for the Upper Bavaria police prefecture told AFP. — BAP, GMA News
