DMW probing illegal recruitment of Filipinos in Russia
The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) is working together with concerned agencies and international authorities in probing into the possible illegal recruitment of Filipinos in Russia amid tension with Ukrainian forcers, Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac said Wednesday.
These agencies include the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and the Department of National Defense, Cacdac said during the Kapihan sa Manila Bay Forum.
"We're working closely also with DOJ-IACAT para masugpo ito. Meron at meron talagang illegal recruitment activity along these lines," Cacdac said.
(We’re also working closely with the Department of Justice – Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking to put a stop to these activities. There are indeed cases of illegal recruitment taking place along these lines.)
Cacdac made the statement after reports emerged that a Filipino had died while fighting for Russian forces against Ukraine.
He did not confirm the report but said illegal recruitment is happening.
However, he did not share further details as the operation is still ongoing.
DFA earlier said it is seeking confirmation of reports that a Filipino died while fighting for Russia forces in Ukraine. —VAL, GMA News
