PH-Luxembourg labor deal eyed to expand job opportunities for Pinoys — DMW
The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) announced on Saturday that it is working to expand job opportunities for Filipinos in Luxembourg through a proposed Joint Declaration of Intent (JDI) on labor cooperation, discussed between representatives of both countries.
Held on Friday, the agency said the meeting focused on creating broader employment options for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) while ensuring safe, ethical recruitment practices and fair working conditions.
“Through the proposed JDI, the DMW aims to offer skilled OFWs more employment options in Luxembourg while safeguarding their rights and welfare throughout the recruitment and employment process,” the DMW said in a Facebook post.
To ensure these employment standards and arrangements are strictly met, the department emphasized the need for continuous coordination with Philippine partner agencies.
The discussions on potential areas of labor cooperation took place between DMW Secretary Hans Cacdac, Honorary Consul of Luxembourg in the Philippines, Lutz H. Kunack, and Minister-Counsellor and Tokyo-based Deputy Head of Mission Anne Moes.
As of June 2019, there were approximately 1,200 Filipinos in Luxembourg, based on data from the Department of Foreign Affairs. —Lyjah Tiffany Bonzo/RF, GMA News
