This October, celebrated as "Filipino-American History (or Heritage) Month," The Filipino School of New York & New Jersey is holding the âI Am Filipino-American" contest. Those who are interested to join the contest must answer three questions: (1) Why are you proud to be a Filipino in America? (2) What are ways you have shown, or are showing, your pride in being Filipino American? (3) How will you share (with others) knowledge about your Filipino culture? Entries can be submitted in any of the following formats:
Short Essay (no more than 250 words)
Drawing/Picture/Poster
Photograph
Poem or Song Lyrics
Video (no more than 30 seconds) One winner will be selected from each of the following age categories:
Grades 1-3
Grades 4-6
Grades 7-9
Grades 10-12 The prize gift basket, valued at approximately $150 each, includes:
a t-shirt,
a Filipino-American dictionary,
tote bag,
mug,
poster set, and
textbook (all focused on the theme: Filipino-American pride). To qualify, those who will join must be of Filipino descent, in grade 1-12, and must reside in NY or NJ. The deadline for submission of entries is on October 28, 2011 Midnight EST. Entries may be submitted to: info@filschool-nynj.org with âFAHM Contest" in the title. Participants must include their name, age, and city/state. Winners will be announced at the end of the month. - GMA News
