LGUs sa Basilan at Sibugay inalerto kontra krimen

Hinimok ni Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo ang mga lokal na opisyal sa kanlurang Mindanao na bantayan ang kani-kanilang lugar upang maiwasang maulit ang madugong bakbakan na nangyari sa Basilan noong Oktubre 18. Inihayag ni Robredo sa mga lokal na opisyal ng Basilan at Zamboanga Sibugay nitong Biyernes na sila ang maaaring managot kapag hindi nila mabantayan ang kani-kanilang komunidad laban sa mga kriminal. "If the concerned local chief executives do nothing against lawless elements or even harbors fugitives in their areas, they are liable under the law. We can file criminal and administrative cases against them such as harboring fugitives or dereliction of duty under the Local Government Code of 1991," ani Robredo. Mahigit 2000 na pamilya ang nadamay sa bakbakang naganap sa pagitan ng militar at ng mga rebeldeng MILF sa Al-Barka, Basilan at sa tatlong bayan sa Zamboanga Sibugay. Habang isinasagawa ang relief operations para sa mga nadamay ng labanan inulit ni Robredo ang sinabi ni Pangulong Benigno Aquino III na "all-out-justice" lamang at hindi armas ang sagot upang maayos ang problema sa Mindanao. “It is the responsibility of the government to go after and work for the arrest of lawless elements and fugitives hiding or staying in MILF-controlled areas. And it does not mean we are up against the MILF. The peace negotiations with them should push through. I hope that the public, particularly the Muslim-dominated areas in Mindanao, would understand that line," aniya. Pinaalahanan ni Robredo ang lokal na opisyal na huwag mag-dalawang-isip sa pagtulong sa mga lokal na pulis at militar sa kani-kanilang komunidad upang labanan ang mga kriminal. "If local executives won’t do anything against lawless elements and fugitives present in their areas, there would be no peace and development thereat.
